Surprise win for Surrey race team despite gruelling season

Sandown Motorsport have achieved a miraculous end of season win after only finishing one of 12 races this year.

Sandown Motorsport have achieved a miraculous end of season win after only finishing one of 12 races this year. 

Scott Evans, driver of the number 44 car, crossed the finish line in first place at Snetterton Circuit during the final race of the 2024 Porsche Boxster Championship.

During this race, the car experienced technical issues which caused the team concern and doubled their nerves. 

A red flag caused by a smoking car meant that the race stopped and drivers would have to retake the lap that they just completed.

Although they managed to get up to first place before the red flag, Sandown Motorsport would restart the race in second position due to regulations.

The race resumed with only 6 minutes left on the clock, time was ticking and Scott was under pressure to give his team their only win of the year. 

After a difficult season full of ups and downs, Scott battled through and Sandown Motorsport finally got their well-deserved win.

Chloe Harris, a mechanic at Sandown Motorsport, said: “ The win had us in complete shock and happiness.”

Almost every race had ended in a DNF (did not finish) for the team due to mechanical faults.

Chloe said: “This really tested the team to the max, truly pushing us hard,”

As a team, the crew worked hard each time to get the car back to race condition, over and over again.

“The season was a really tough year for the team but nevertheless, everyone pushed through and we got the best result we could have asked for at the last round of the year.”
